What do you need?
PRESENTING YOUR THESIS AT THE ULe
A doctoral thesis is an original and comprehensive piece of research that you will undertake as a final requirement for the highest academic degree in a specific field of study, the PhD. In your project you will contribute to existing knowledge in a particular research area, and you will usually work closely with your thesis supervisor.
During the development of your dissertation you will undertake original research on a specific question or problem within a field of study. You will collect and analyse data, review relevant literature and develop your own arguments and conclusions based on this research. The dissertation will be presented in written form in the form of a long and well-structured document, meeting the standards and requirements set by ULe.
In addition to the written thesis, you will have to defend your work in front of an academic committee during an oral examination known as a thesis defence. During this defence, you will present and explain your research, answering the committee’s questions and demonstrating your mastery of the subject.
The award of a PhD through the successful submission and defence of a doctoral thesis is considered one of the highest academic achievements and represents recognition of your ability as a student to carry out original research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in your chosen field of study.
THE END OF THE ROAD
SUBMIT YOUR THESIS
Once you have completed all the chapters of your dissertation, including an introduction to the topic, a thorough review of the existing literature, followed a detailed methodology, analysed and recorded the results obtained along with an analysis and discussion of these results, it is time to present your conclusions and present the findings and their significance.
Now, once you have completed your thesis, you will have to defend it orally in front of a committee of experts in the field. This defence is known as a “viva” or “thesis defence”. If the committee considers the work to be rigorous, original and to make a significant contribution to knowledge, you will be awarded the title of Doctor and be awarded the degree of Doctor in your discipline.
